Save More on a More Comfortable Home
RCL Mechanical helps homeowners understand available energy efficiency programs, rebates, incentives and financing options for qualifying heating, cooling and home efficiency improvements.
What Is Mass Save?
Mass Save is a Massachusetts energy efficiency initiative designed to help eligible homeowners improve comfort, reduce energy usage and make qualifying home improvements more affordable.
Depending on your utility provider, home, existing equipment and project, available opportunities can include home energy assessments, rebates, incentives, weatherization assistance and financing for qualifying energy efficiency upgrades.
RCL Mechanical helps take the confusion out of the HVAC side of the process. Our team can evaluate your current system, recommend properly sized qualifying equipment and help you understand the steps that may be required before your installation can move forward.
Make Qualifying Improvements More Affordable
Massachusetts and Rhode Island Programs Work Differently
RCL serves customers in the region, but the energy programs available to you depend on where your home is located and which utility serves the property.
Mass Save
Eligible Massachusetts homeowners may have access to Mass Save home energy assessments, efficiency incentives, qualifying heat pump rebates, weatherization programs and the Mass Save HEAT Loan.
Rhode Island Energy Programs
Rhode Island homeowners are not enrolled through Massachusetts Mass Save. Rhode Island Energy offers its own energy savings and customer assistance programs, with eligibility and benefits determined separately.
How Mass Save Works
Click each step below to see how a typical qualifying Massachusetts project moves from the initial assessment to your completed RCL Mechanical installation.
1 Confirm Your Mass Save Eligibility
The first step is determining whether your home and proposed improvement qualify for the Mass Save program you plan to use.
HEAT Loan eligibility generally requires the homeowner to have a current residential electric or gas account with a participating Mass Save Sponsor. Eligible project requirements vary depending on the improvement being completed.
RCL Mechanical can help you understand what information you will need for the HVAC portion of the project before you move forward.
2 Complete a Home Energy Assessment When Required
A no cost Home Energy Assessment helps identify how your home currently uses and loses energy and can uncover additional opportunities to improve comfort and efficiency.
A Home Energy Assessment is required for certain Mass Save measures. These currently include whole home heat pump projects, certain partial home heat pump projects pursuing bonus incentives, weatherization, weatherization barriers and qualifying window projects.
For some other financeable improvements, an assessment may not be mandatory, although Mass Save still recommends completing one because it may identify additional savings opportunities.
Learn About Home Energy Assessments3 Receive Your RCL Mechanical System Proposal
Once you know the requirements for your home, RCL Mechanical can evaluate your existing heating and cooling system and recommend the right equipment for your property.
Proper equipment selection and system sizing matter. Your proposal should account for your home's actual heating and cooling needs rather than simply replacing the existing equipment with another unit of the same size.
For qualifying Mass Save heat pump incentives and financing, the equipment and contractor must meet applicable program requirements.
4 Complete Weatherization Requirements If Applicable
Mass Save emphasizes improving the efficiency of the home before installing certain new heating equipment.
If your Home Energy Assessment identifies required weatherization work, such as insulation or air sealing, those recommendations may need to be completed before your project qualifies for certain whole home heat pump incentives.
Improving the building envelope can reduce heating and cooling demand, improve comfort and may allow the home to use smaller, more efficient equipment.
5 Apply for the HEAT Loan If You Want Financing
Eligible homeowners may apply for Mass Save HEAT Loan financing for qualifying energy efficiency improvements.
The current program offers 0% financing for up to $25,000 in eligible improvements.
Your application generally includes your signed contractor proposal and any other documentation required for your project. If your project is approved, Mass Save provides an Authorization Form that you take to a participating lender.
Financing should be secured before qualifying equipment is installed.

After receiving the Mass Save Authorization Form, homeowners using the HEAT Loan select a participating lender and complete the lender's approval process.
Financing is subject to lender approval. Once approved, the lender typically issues a two party check payable to both the homeowner and contractor.
7 RCL Mechanical Completes Your Installation
Once the required program steps and approvals are complete, RCL Mechanical can complete your new heating or cooling installation.
Our licensed technicians install the system professionally, confirm operation and help ensure you have the contractor documentation associated with your project.
8 Apply for Applicable Rebates and Complete Verification
Once your qualifying project is complete, applicable Mass Save rebate submissions can be completed through the Mass Save rebate process.
Some projects also require a verification inspection after installation. Mass Save can provide the exact requirements associated with your specific project.
Keep copies of your proposal, equipment information, invoices and other program documentation until the entire incentive process is complete.
You Do Not Have to Figure This Out Alone
The program can look complicated when you first start researching it. RCL Mechanical can help you make sense of the HVAC portion, recommend qualifying equipment and help you understand what steps need to happen before installation.

Mass Save Questions
A few of the questions homeowners commonly have when they begin researching a qualifying heating or cooling upgrade.
Do I need a Home Energy Assessment before replacing my HVAC system?
Not for every project. Mass Save currently requires a Home Energy Assessment for certain measures, including whole home heat pumps, some partial home heat pump projects pursuing bonus incentives, windows and weatherization related projects. Other financeable improvements may not require one, although Mass Save recommends completing an assessment.
How much can I finance with a Mass Save HEAT Loan?
Eligible homeowners may currently qualify for 0% financing up to a maximum total of $25,000 for qualifying energy efficiency improvements. Final eligibility and loan approval are determined through Mass Save and a participating lender.
Can I install the system before applying for the HEAT Loan?
Homeowners who plan to use HEAT Loan financing should complete the required application and financing process before the qualifying installation is performed.
Does every heat pump qualify for Mass Save?
No. Equipment, contractor participation, efficiency levels, system configuration and other program requirements can determine eligibility. RCL Mechanical can help you select appropriate equipment for your home, but final incentive eligibility is determined by Mass Save.
Does Mass Save apply to Rhode Island homes?
Massachusetts Mass Save and Rhode Island Energy programs are separate. Rhode Island homeowners should review Rhode Island Energy's current savings, rebate and customer assistance resources to determine which programs apply to their property.
Can RCL Mechanical help me understand the process?
Yes. RCL Mechanical can help evaluate your current HVAC system, explain equipment options, prepare your project proposal and help you understand the HVAC related steps associated with your project. Program eligibility, rebates and financing approval remain subject to the applicable program and lender requirements.
